Francis Facchini, M.D., FSIR, joined Varian in 2019. He has global responsibility for overseeing all aspects of Varian’s Interventional Solutions business, including ongoing development of Varian’s innovative interventional solutions treatment offerings and clinical strategy, as well as driving advancements in the field of interventional oncology as an important pillar of patient care.
Dr. Facchini entered the industry in 2005 at Boston Scientific as a Medical Director of the Oncology division. He subsequently served as the Chief Medical Officer of public and private companies, including Navilyst Medical, Angiodynamics, and BTG.
In addition to his role at Varian, Dr. Facchini is a board-certified physician in Interventional Radiology and continues to practice. He has a special area of interest in minimally invasive image-guided treatment of cancer, and is actively involved in the research and development of cancer therapies. He has founded a multi-center, liver-directed cancer treatment program.
Dr. Facchini also has participated as a principal investigator in musculoskeletal interventional radiology, peripheral vascular disease and venous access. He is a member of several professional societies, including the Radiologic Society of North America, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Society of Interventional Radiology, the Society of Interventional Oncology, and the American Medical Association. He is a charter member of The Advisory Boards Medical Affairs division. Dr. Facchini is a member of AOA medical honor society and has been elected a Fellow of the Society of Interventional Radiology.
Dr. Facchini received his medical degree from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. He completed an internship in surgery at the University of Chicago and residency training followed by a fellowship in interventional radiology at Northwestern University. He is certified by the American Board of Radiology and holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Interventional Radiology. Francis R. Facchini, M.D., FSIR
