Palo Alto, Calif. - November 12, 2002 - Varian Medical Systems(NYSE:VAR) has scheduled a meeting and webcast at 4 p.m. Eastern Time this Thursday, November 14 for management presentations on fiscal year 2002 and a special talk by Dr. Theodore Lawrence of the University of Michigan on how intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) can be used to improve future cancer treatments. Richard M. Levy, President and CEO of Varian Medical Systems, will discuss the company and its performance in the fiscal year 2002; and Elisha W. Finney, Vice President and CFO, will provide a financial overview of the year. Timothy E. Guertin, Executive Vice President and President of Varian's Oncology Systems business, will discuss market conditions, product developments, and other factors contributing to the growth of the radiotherapy business. IMRT enables radiation oncologists to improve clinical outcomes by focusing radiation beams precisely on tumors while sparing surrounding healthy tissue.
