PALO ALTO, Calif., Nov. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Varian Medical Systems, Inc. (NYSE: VAR), a premier supplier of X-ray tubes and the PaxScan® line of digital X-ray image detectors, will introduce two new PaxScan products at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) at McCormick Place in Chicago from November 25 - 30, 2007.
-- The PaxScan 4336R adds a 14 x 17 inch detector to Varian's broad line of flat panel products. It is specifically designed to replace a standard film cassette for use in radiographic applications. -- The PaxScan 4343R is Varian's largest flat-panel X-ray image detector. At 17 x 17 inches, it is designed for permanent mounting in radiographic tables or wall stands, or for any application that requires a large field of view.
Except for their physical size, both panels incorporate identical detector arrays and readout electronics, making them excellent radiographic imaging solutions for any general purpose room. Image data and control signals, which are based upon an industry standard Gigabit Ethernet interface, can be passed to and from these detectors using standard network interface cards. Images are transmitted instantaneously to the image processor for display and diagnosis. Housings and cable attachments are designed for simple integration into any diagnostic imaging system.
Both of these panels come bundled with VIVA™ software, a system design and development application for image acquisition and viewing on a workstation running Microsoft® Windows™. This software package provides an easy way for the original equipment manufacturer or system integrator to begin image analysis and system design quickly. Also included with VIVA is a complete Dynamic Link Library (DLL) to facilitate simple software development. Sample code is provided to ease the design of detector set-up and calibration, image acquisition, and image optimization. All Varian X-ray products come with excellent applications support to help customers with system design and development.
In addition to these new products, Varian will exhibit the company's full line of X-ray tubes, as well as the company's cancer treatment technologies, including the market-leading Eclipse™ radiotherapy treatment planning system for planning and adapting conformal radiation therapy treatments on the basis of 3-D image data.
